ExAblate uses MR guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) technology that combines MRI and high intensity focused ultrasound to thermally ablate tumors inside the body, non-invasively. The uniqueness of focused ultrasound guided by MR is its ability to monitor treatment outcome and control treatment parameters to achieve the planned outcome in real time.

Two applications of  ExAblate are  commercially approved in the United States:

The treatment of symptomatic uterine fibroids

Pain palliation of bone metastastases for patients who cannot or choose not to undergo radiation
